nervous rally

the dow breaks a 4 week losing streak as does the S&P. The Naz however couldn't pull itself together and fell for the 5th straight week. The DJIA had a 6oo point intra-day in the middle of this week, capping a volatile week with an exclamation point.

The funds that were unable to or didn't want to go short the first part of the year are starting off '08 with a decent sized hole to dig out of over the next 11 months.

Not to say which way we would have positioned outselves but one could debate there would be a 50% chance of us getting our heads ripped off. Not a bad time to delay the start by a few weeks.

Happy Friday.

free-fallin'

lots of $$ to be made/was made/could be made on the short side. 3 major indices appear to be in a free-fall. Don't try to catch the falling dagger and watch for the dead cat bounce and all those other bearish cliches that get trodded out during these market times.

Happy Friday.

consolidating on the lows

another bloody day on the street. Another round of bad announcements regarding corporate earnings and write-downs force the sellers to step up and hit the bid.

Today's big sell-off brought the major indices back down to the lows of this most recent consolidation. After biding their time over the last week or two the major indices are poised to move lower. With numerous earnings announcements scheduled, the potential catalyst is there. This market needs only a nudge in the right direction for another step down on the charts.

Don't cover those shorts quite yet...

volatility

Another up-and-down week, the banks staged a bit of a comeback today but the techs have been hammered all week. The marketing gets going this week. Good timing since one can show the ability to make money on the short side with plenty of examples to give.

Happy Friday.

rough start to '08

if you're long you're already in the hole a chunk, if you're short, you are off to your best start in years perhaps....the markets are selling off hard....oil and middle east turmoil don't help things at all.

Happy Friday.
